Racism, or learned behavior?

After reading Stereotypes and Prejudice: Their Automatic and Controlled Components by Devine, it really made me think about the reason why there is (and has been) racism in the world. The research study basically talked about how they tried to distinguish between automatic and controlled processes, or in this case, is trying to figure out when people look at certain races do they have a stereotype of them automatically or can they be "primed" to have stereotypes of a particular race. This actually made me think of the frames from The Central Frames of Color-Blind Racism By Silvia and how they can compare to this theory.

For example the frame of Cultural Racism (which is racism based on cultural arguments that most of the time are not true) could be explained if the "racist race" was primed into thinking a certain way about another race because of maybe what they saw on TV or other entertainment venues (or even just being exposed to that race and just happens to see all of them acting a certain way) so when they do see people of that race, if all they have is negative stereotypes, then they will automatically judge them in a negative way without even knowing that person.

The only question now is how can we change that.
