We have discussed the topic of race in media for an extensive amount of time in class.
The entertainment industry has been one of the few industries where multiple racial groups experienced success, making it one of the richest and most diverse sources of employment. As the society became more evolved and more sensitive to the issues regarding the concept of race.
Mary C. Beltran, the author of "The New Hollywood Racelessness: Only the Fast, (and Multicultural) Will Survive", suggests that "Young people of all ethnic backgrounds also are demonstrating in their media habits an interest in performers of diverse backgrounds" and the content creators such as producers, manufacturers and advertisers are "capitalizing on this evolution."
If this theory is true, it would verify the assumption that many giant media production companies and advertisers are only in it for the money whether the new trend of seeking racial equality in media should be socially encouraged or not.
The truth of the matter is, if the world somehow went back to the 1940s, and the caucasians overtook the world as the dominant race once again, the media would drop the diversity card in a heart beat to capitalize as much as they can while they can.
And, some people wonder why people are so against the mass media.
