Women

Women's rights has always been an issue. Women want full equality to men and that has been fought for in the past but never fully granted. Black women has not been given full equality to that of white women. Instead they are seen as second class citizens. That is because women want to maintain whiteness. It is shocking that very few women intellectuals get noticed for their work or that black women are not allowed the same chances as white women. It is to maintain a white hierarchy. We saw this perfectly in The Help.

Even with the women's first and second wave, white women did not want black women fighting along with them for equal rights. Black women had to form their own women's organization to fight for equal rights. Even though if it was not for the Civil Rights Movement the second wave would not have been able to start. In the first wave for the right to vote, during the suffrage parade black women had to walk in the back with other black women. They could not walk alongside the whites.

Women's rights is a constant struggle. Black women have the hardest struggles of all. They have to deal with racism, men, violence, work, education and the lost goes on. Black women are not allowed the same opportunities as white women and they have to fight for what they want. Many white people do not see this because they ignore the issues of black women. In order to stop women's subordinate white women, black women, and women of different races need to come together and fight. Together they can make a difference. In order to do so white women need to stop looking at themselves as if they are the supreme race and all others are not important.

Do you think black women representation in the medical field, intellectual field, entertainment, etc has grown and will continue? Is it still harder for women of color to succeed even though we live in an era where everyone is supposed to have equal chances?
